Tips on selling a website

Selling a website can be quite complex. To help you I have listed some tips I have learned along the way. List the website for sale on digital point or some other market place

  1. Get screen shots of stats and also revenue screen shots, if you are getting revenue screen shots be sure to blank out and ctr rates and money made per click (press print screen button and paste into graphics editing package)
  2. Make sure you list the current PageRank and also the predicted iwebtool pagerank. Type in the url www.iwebtool.com/www.yourdomain.com
  3. If the domain is a good one make sure you point this out.
  4. Also list the traffic sources, for example,70% from search engines, 10% from bookmarks, 20% from links.
  5. If it’s a forum, list the posts and number of members.
  6. If it uses software make sure you list if the sale includes the license.
  7. If it’s a content site, make it clear if the content is original or copied (from free sources).
  8. If someone doubts your stats or calls your website, don’t call them names just try to reason with them.

Advertisers for your blog – Text Link Ads Review

I was looking for ways to diversify my income from the internet when I come across Text Link Ads (affilate link). Text link ads is basically a marketplace where you sell hyperlinks on your website to others.

Its very easy to setup, all you do with wordpress is install the plugin and put one tiny bit of code where you want the ads to display. Then you go to text link ads and add your site to the market place.

I listed this blog www.webbrander.com for sale about two days ago, I have already got a buyer for one link from Forbes (really big American business magazine and site) which is great.  See the Naveen Jain link at the bottom of this site in the red box. That’s it there. Also if you sign up today there have a special offer of $100 in FREE Links

Advantages and disadvantages of online business

Internet business Advantages

  • Can be very cheap start up costs (domain $8, hosting $10) when compared to other business such as owning a shop, for example a pizza takeaway has to buy ovens, ingredients etc..
  • You can run your business from anywhere
  • Low overheads (hosting and maybe staff costs)
  • The internet is still a open market, lots of opportunities for new business models exist.
  • If you get it right you can have super fast growth. For example Youtube was only started in Feb 2005 and was sold for $1.65 billion in October 2006. It only took them 21 months to grow to be worth 1.65 billion which is amazing.

Internet business disadvantages

  • Low barriers to entry which means that it is easy for someone to set up a website and compete with you
  • Business models can easily be copied, look at youtube and how many copys of their site exist.
  • Can take a bit of time to train yourself, for example if you were to start a sandwich shop you can pretty much start making sandwiches without much trouble whereas to make a  website you need a bit of knowledge and skill
  • Spam – you can spend a lot of your time dealing with spam emails and sales people telephoning you trying to sell you directory listings.

Improving my blog

I have spent the last 60mins improving my blog by adding a few different features.

First of all I added an agloco banner, agloco basically pays you for surfing the internet which is pretty cool and you can also earn money when your referred friends sign up and surf the internet. If you would like to try it out please sign up via the banner at the top of the site.

I have also added a technorati favorite’s link that if you click it adds this bog to your technorati favorites. I have also added a feedburner subscriber link. Currently I have no subscribers; hopefully I will have some soon. These changes should increase traffic over the long term.

Wordpress robots.txt file

A robots.txt file is a file that is used to keep web pages and files from being indexed by search engines. I decided I needed one on my blog to stop duplicate the rss feeds being indexed.
To create your robots.txt file open up notepad and save the file as robots.txt.

Here is the code:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-
Disallow: /feed/
Disallow: /trackback/

The first line “User-agent: *” means that all the search engine robots (from Google, Yahoo, MSN and so on). Search engine robots are what gather the data for search engines.

“Disallow: /wp-” means don’t index the pages in the root folder (also known as home directory) with the starting name wp-.

“Disallow: /feed/” don’t index the feed. This stops your blog getting penalized for duplicate content.

“Disallow: /trackback/” don’t index trackbacks

Free Software that can help web entrepreneurs

I just installed adlogger and its great, its free and lets you track the clicks on your adsense ads. It does have some flaws in that it can only be used on php sites.

Try xamp apache friends, it lets you setup apache php and mysql with just one install on your local computer (your desktop or laptop). This means that you can develop websites on your home computer and then upload them to your web server.

My Websites that help web entrepreneurs

Some internet entrepreneurs design there own logos, I have this site to help them do that Logo Tutorials .

If you do a bit of web design then add your link to web designers directory.  To buy your domain name use either godaddy or namecheap and to save a bit of money go to domain name coupons. If you need to learn more about web programming visit free computing ebooks.

I hope these sites help you out a bit.

The Apprentice - How to Get Hired Not Fired, by Alan Sugar as a general business book or the Millionaire Mind Thomas J Stanley as a finance lesson. Working hard to invest

Mostly been working in my part time job as a barperson in a golf club because it’s close to Christmas they have a lot of extra hours going. The other day I worked a 15 and a half hour shift. My plan is to invest the money I make from working over Christmas into my business.

I will have lots of spare time in January when the bar is empty and my hours are cut. Website wise I haven’t done a lot the only two things that come to mind is I added lots of classic arcade games to www.classicgamesarcade.com such as metal slug.

I have also been redeveloping a clients website. I recently signed up to www.cj.com and my friend bought some hosting from one of my affiliate links. The sale didn’t show in my account so I emailed them about it. They added the sale to my account which was good of them. I was quite impressed by their service. I still don’t understand why the sale didn’t show up anyway.
