Internet business Advantages
Â
- Can be very cheap start up costs (domain $8, hosting $10) when compared to other business such as owning a shop, for example a pizza takeaway has to buy ovens, ingredients etc..
- You can run your business from anywhere
- Low overheads (hosting and maybe staff costs)
- The internet is still a open market, lots of opportunities for new business models exist.
- If you get it right you can have super fast growth. For example Youtube was only started in Feb 2005 and was sold for $1.65 billion in October 2006. It only took them 21 months to grow to be worth 1.65 billion which is amazing.
Â
Internet business disadvantages
Â
- Low barriers to entry which means that it is easy for someone to set up a website and compete with you
- Business models can easily be copied, look at youtube and how many copys of their site exist.
- Can take a bit of time to train yourself, for example if you were to start a sandwich shop you can pretty much start making sandwiches without much trouble whereas to make a website you need a bit of knowledge and skill
- Spam – you can spend a lot of your time dealing with spam emails and sales people telephoning you trying to sell you directory listings.

Quick book reviews
I just sold a load of business books I have read on ebay so I might as well review them here.
Trump think like a billionaire
Good book with lots of general advice tips although some of the tips are a bit over the top like sleeping for 5 hours a day. Basically this is a book of short tips and not very in depth.
Rating 3 out of 5
The Amstrad story
This book is basically about Amstrad and how Alan Sugar built it up from nothing into a multi national business. This is a excellent book although its very rare and difficult to get hold of.
Rating 4 out of 5
Sell to win Richard Denny
A decent book on selling stuff it argues that the best way to sell is to give an honest opinion because if you do badly sell a product it will probably just get returned anyway. It also teaches you some selling techniques
Rating 3 out of 5
Motivate to win Richard Denny
A book on motivating people and yourself, its an ok book.
Rating 3 out of 5
Business the Richard Branson way
Good book that looks at the techniques of Richard Branson in business. He tends to pick on big companies such as BA and coca cola, then he winds them up until they bite back.
Rating 4 out of 5
Business the Rupert Murdoch way
Rupert Murdoch is often seen as a bad guy in business but he is successful. He owns loads of newspapers, sky tv, fox and also myspace. Murdoch is a good business man and this book tells you his techniques, to me he just seems to be a bit amoral eg dosen’t put morals into business.
Rating 4 out of 5
Forbes Greatest business stories of all time
Great book full of inspirational business stories. This is a book worth buying.
Rating 5 out of 5
How to start a home based web design business
This book will help you start a web design business. It has sample contracts and stuff and also some good tips. Its worth it for the tenner it costs.
4/5 if you are a web designer
Abramovich the billionaire from nowhere
More political then business, this book disappointed me as I would have liked a better background on abramovich and his early days.

I have spent the last 60mins improving my blog by adding a few different features.
First of all I added an agloco banner, agloco basically pays you for surfing the internet which is pretty cool and you can also earn money when your referred friends sign up and surf the internet. If you would like to try it out please sign up via the banner at the top of the site.
I have also added a technorati favorite’s link that if you click it adds this bog to your technorati favorites. I have also added a feedburner subscriber link. Currently I have no subscribers; hopefully I will have some soon. These changes should increase traffic over the long term.

These guys ring you up and promise you a spanking new great website and top rankings on search engines. They are full of crap. What you will get for your money is a crap one page website built from a template that won’t rank at all in the search engines. Also they will charge your credit card multiple times, not cancel your contract when you send letters and ask (I think they have a 12 month period where you can’t cancel).
How do I know all this because my Granddad bought a listing off them over the telephone. Also they telephoned myself trying to sell a new website and directory listing with ufindus because I have a lot of knowledge eg a degree in the internet and a job in it, I can confirm what they say is absoulte crap.
Here is an article from the mirror on iomart ufindus.

A robots.txt file is a file that is used to keep web pages and files from being indexed by search engines. I decided I needed one on my blog to stop duplicate the rss feeds being indexed.
To create your robots.txt file open up notepad and save the file as robots.txt.
Here is the code:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-
Disallow: /feed/
Disallow: /trackback/
The first line “User-agent: *†means that all the search engine robots (from Google, Yahoo, MSN and so on). Search engine robots are what gather the data for search engines.
“Disallow: /wp-” means don’t index the pages in the root folder (also known as home directory) with the starting name wp-.
“Disallow: /feed/” don’t index the feed. This stops your blog getting penalized for duplicate content.
“Disallow: /trackback/” don’t index trackbacks

If like me registerfly have screwed you e.g. stealing your money and not renewing your domain its time to transfer your domains away.
I decided to go for godaddy (this offer is on there homepage near the top) as they have a special offer which is $6 for a transfer and they add another year onto the domain. So for example if you have a domain that is due to expire in 9/26/06 and you transfer it to godaddy then it will expire in 9/26/07.
To transfer your domain from registerfly to any registrar you need your domain unlocked, your domain authorization code (also known as epp code) and privacy protection (also known as protect fly or whoisguard) disabled and the correct email address on the domain record.
1. Firstly login to the registerfly website
2. Click the manage domains button on the main menu
3. Select your domain name by clicking (the domain name is blue underlined)
To unlock the domain
4. A new page will load, with the domain details on. Check the domain status if it says unlocked you should be ok (if the whois says locked try locking then unlocking). If it says locked then click the locked link.

5. A new page will load click the unlock tick box (also known as a checkbox) if it is ticked and click the update button. The page should reload with the updated information.
6. You can use the drop down menu to quickly go to your other domains and unlock them

To get your domain authorization code (also known as epp code)
7. Carry out steps 1 to 3 above to get to your domain information page.
8. Click the + button, to expand the domain contact information panel (see diagram)

9. Click the configure button in the domain contact information panel
10. The configure page will load. Scroll down to the button of the page and click the configure button.

11. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to find your authorization code.

12. You can also update your email information on this page.
13. To quickly get the epp codes for your other domains use the drop down menu with the domain names in at the top of the page.

I just installed adlogger and its great, its free and lets you track the clicks on your adsense ads. It does have some flaws in that it can only be used on php sites.
Try xamp apache friends, it lets you setup apache php and mysql with just one install on your local computer (your desktop or laptop). This means that you can develop websites on your home computer and then upload them to your web server.

Some internet entrepreneurs design there own logos, I have this site to help them do that Logo Tutorials .
If you do a bit of web design then add your link to web designers directory. To buy your domain name use either godaddy or namecheap and to save a bit of money go to domain name coupons. If you need to learn more about web programming visit free computing ebooks.
I hope these sites help you out a bit.

Q. Where did you get your domain from?
Digital point for $10.
Q. Where are you from?
North East England which is famous for its friendly people and football (soccer).
Q. Fav computer games?
Street fighter 2 or bubble bobble, you can play both here Classic Games Arcade. I like classic computer games.
Q. Fav book
The Apprentice – How to Get Hired Not Fired, by Alan Sugar as a general business book or the Millionaire Mind Thomas J Stanley as a finance lesson. I am after Duncan Bannatynes, I started reading it in the bookshop and couldn’t put it down. I would have bought it if it wasn’t £20 ($40). I only really like biographies or factual books, story books just don’t interest me.
Q. Fav drink
Ribenna
Q. Do you read peoples blogs on your blogroll
Yeah I read them all. I also have a few of them on my msn messenger list and chat to them quite regular.
